Some companies build buses. We’re the ones who’ve spent 150 years perfecting them, because every bus we build carries someone who matters to someone else. Today, as a proud part of the Blue Bird family, we bring together more than a hundred years of combined expertise and a shared commitment to building the safest, most durable, most cost-effective buses on the road.
It started in 1966. Van conversions, a small plant in Drummondville, Quebec, and a reputation for doing things right. Over the decades, Girardin Minibus grew into one of the most respected names in North American bus manufacturing. The reason was simple: build it better, and it will last longer.
In 2009, Girardin and Blue Bird joined forces to create Micro Bird. Two industry leaders. One singular focus: Type A buses.
Today, Micro Bird is a proud part of the Blue Bird family. We manufacture buses at our 250,000 sq ft facility in Drummondville, QC, and our US facility in Plattsburgh, NY. Together, we’re stronger. And we’re just getting started.
1966 – The first van conversion rolls out of Drummondville. The beginning of a reputation we’ve been building ever since.
1979 – We build the first dual rear-wheel Type A bus in the industry. On a dare. It works.
2005 – The G5 launches. It becomes the industry leader in Type A school buses and still holds that position today.
2009 – Girardin and Blue Bird combine 150 years of expertise to create Micro Bird. One company. One focus.
2014 – We introduce the T-Series and CT-Series. A North American first in Type A design.
2015 – The D-Series raises the bar for commercial capacity. Up to 28 passengers, built to last.
2016 – Micro Bird celebrates its 50th anniversary.
2019 – The G5 adds 6 wheelchair positions. The most accessible Type A bus ever built.
2020 – Major expansion of the Drummondville plant, increasing capacity for electric vehicle production.
2021 – Micro Bird marks its 55th anniversary.
2024 – We open our US facility in Plattsburgh, NY. Closer to you, wherever you are.
2026 – Micro Bird joins the Blue Bird family. Two trusted names. One shared commitment to building the best buses on the road.
We don’t just respond to our customers’ needs. We anticipate them. Every product decision, every service interaction, every improvement we make starts with one question: how does this make things better for the people who depend on our buses?
Safety isn’t a feature we add. It’s the foundation we build from. We hold ourselves to a standard that goes beyond what’s required, because the people on board our buses deserve nothing less than the best we can make.
We believe the best work comes from teams that trust each other. We promote a culture built on mutual respect, honest communication, and shared purpose. With our colleagues, our partners, and our customers.
Open, transparent communication isn’t a value we list. It’s one we practice. We say what we mean, we mean what we say, and we make sure the people around us always have the information they need to do their best work.
Create value for our customers by designing, fabricating, and distributing safe vehicles of superior quality, while guaranteeing satisfaction for our customers, profitability for our shareholders, and the well-being of our team.
To be recognized as the best supplier of vehicles in our industry, through customer orientation, continuous innovation, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Drummondville, QC – Our 250,000 sq ft headquarters and primary manufacturing facility includes a 115,000 sq ft expansion dedicated to electric vehicle production. Drummondville is where Micro Bird was born, and where the majority of our buses are still built today.
Plattsburgh, NY – Our US manufacturing facility, established in 2024, brings Micro Bird production to the American market. This new facility supports our growing dealer network across the United States and reinforces our commitment to North American manufacturing.
